We had a fun day today at work while we’re on break. We’ve made a domino effect from unused business cards that were about to be thrown away. We were full of anticipation and amazed to see the cards fell on top of each other but we failed :(. Anyway, enjoy the video! Thanks to Mr. Ryuucat for editing the video :)

It’s like building rome in one night. My cousin asked me for quotation for a freelance job and she wants it by today. I was thinking it’ll be not appropriate to just send blank paper without a logo. I learned from one of my good friend who taught me about running a business. I have zero experience on freelance… well.. i did it long time ago but just helping my best friend who needed a design to be done. And because we’re friends from junior high, we trust each other. So she will asked me a design by phone, sms or whatsapp.

This time I want to look like a professional. I think it’s a good time to make myself a logo to represent myself. I want to use my abbreviation name, Jaws. We all know that Jaws is from the shark movie. But it is an abbreviation from my full name. So, i taught origami will be nice to represent the design process. In origami you have to be patient to make it and crafty. I see shark as a boy stuff. Like my cousin’s son like shark (i read it from his essay the other day :P). Maybe not much of a girl would like shark. So, I put the pink colour to emphasize lady.

I haven’t taught about the tagline much because it’s such a rush job. Hence, I still struggle with the pricing. But finally I have a logo. It’s a project that I wanted to do long time ago. Sometimes without an urgency I will procrastinate.

Let me hear what you say about this logo.

I was thinking to get my sister a birthday present; something sentimental. Our late mom have a huge collection of accessories and so, I determined to ‘recycle’ those collection. Our mom loved to wear brooches which I don’t really wear them. How to make it re-useable again? Make it a necklace of course! So this is my re-design of the brooch before and after I alter it to be a necklace. It has a vintage feel to it and a sentimental value.

Life is playground, Experience is knowledge

Being comfortable is good. But being comfortable, but not going anywhere, I don’t think that is good. I’m lucky and grateful to be able to see the world in a different point of view during college. I went to Sydney to embrace another journey of my life and found the passion that I accidentally pick up in high school. Design. I met different people (and of course some of them are Indonesian which is good), multicultural city, and different lifestyle. And of course, Sydney has their arty people. Be it music, painting, contemporary art, jewelry making, etc. It’s broaden my point of view of how art is an everyday way of life.

In my college, one of my teacher said that we don’t have to get a master degree to be a great designer (well, you can get a master degree if you want). It’s all about experience. That’s what I remember the most (a part from everything else.. of course I remember the lessons too). For other branch of art, I enroll for photography class here in Jakarta, and experience is what I got. I can learn from my teacher who is one of the leading magazine photographer here in Jakarta, I can learn from my friends and I can learn from the object that I capture. Experience is knowledge. The more we learn, not with formal education, but learning by doing, that’s when we gain experience and experience give us knowledge.

I see life as a playground. We can do anything with it as we want it, the choice is ours. The things is, whether we want to learn more, to gain that experience more and to get that knowledge and break our comfort zone. Fear, of course taking part of everything that we decide (it’ll be weird if we don’t afraid of anything), but sometimes, we just have to do it. Play hard, work hard.

Life is playground, experience is knowledge.
